Changing the way we produce and consume food across the world

Biotech can transform our food systems from field to fork

How can we feed a growing population without harming our planet, our health or our economies? It will take a complete, field-to-fork rethink of our food systems. Biotech has a key role to play. In fact, many biosolutions already being used by our customers are helping to feed the world more sustainably.

In fields across the world, they're making crops more resilient to climate change. They're improving soil health and reducing harmful chemical use, all while increasing yields.

They’re also dramatically transforming the food on consumers’ forks. Whether derived from plants or fermentation, proteins enabled by our biosolutions have a much smaller carbon footprint than meat proteins. And our biosolutions make a range of other foods and beverages tastier and more nutritious. Beyond the fork, our biosolutions reduce food waste and the emissions associated with it.

Nine billion reasons

By 2050 we’ll need to feed nine billion people. Yet agriculture is already a major driver of climate change. It emits approximately one quarter of global greenhouse gases. If we focus on the big number, reducing these emissions while feeding even more people than we do today seems impossible.

But every change counts, so let’s start with what’s possible right now. And if we accelerate the use of biotechnology to transform our food systems, we can do so much more.
